I was recently reading, “Wigglesworth on the Anointing” by Smith Wigglesworth. This is actually the second time I have read this book, but it has been many many years since the last time. This time it is a requirement for a course that I’m taking through World Harvest Bible College. Check out this quote from Smith Wigglesworth and as you read it remember that he would have wrote this some time between 1900 and 1940.
“Now, keep in mind the following facts. First, you must know that there is a dry condition existing everywhere today. I find it all over. People are longing for a fullness. There never was such a cry, and beloved, it is because the Scriptures are being fullfilled.”
– Smith Wigglesworth
Someone could easily say those exact same words today. There is a dry condition that exists today, as we are living in a dry land. So many people are hungry and too often they are feeding in the wrong places.
They are finding truth in lies. People are seeking answers where there are only questions and deception. Today in our society people are looking to be filled by things like wealth, or career achievement, or sex, or alcohol, or drugs, or…name your distraction. Our eyes are turned from God and we are distracted from the real truth by the lies that this world has to offer. People are interested in the supernatural, but they think it’s found on reality TV shows like Ghost Hunters or dramas like Ghost Whisperer. Instead they ought to look to the one source that has the corner on the market of the supernatural and that is the bible.
Church, consider this our call! People are hungry and thirsty and unless we rise up and point them to the living water, then they will go and find anyone and anything that will throw them crums and dust. We need to be pointing them to John 7:37-38 instead.
