How Does God Measure Success?

Posted by donknoup on April 3, 2009

I have been thinking today about success.  Depending on how you measure it, success can be very different for you than it is for me.  In a classroom if our measurement of success was based on the slowest student, it would appear that all were successful.  So whether or not we achieve success in our lives, jobs, ministries, etc. will be dependent upon what our standard for measurement is.

This made me begin to ask myself this question; “How does God measure success?”  What is his standard of measurement?  How do I achieve success in God’s eyes.  As I pondered this, I came to this conclusion.  I believe that it is summed up in the Parable of the talents when the master says, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.”

I believe that God measures our success in how good we are at faithfully doing what He has commanded us to do.   I recently heard Perry Noble say that the bible is not God’s book of suggestions, but rather the word of God is His commands for us.  So I’m left asking myself the question, “How faithful am I to do His commands?”

What do you think?  How do you think God measures success?
