Well I ain’t talkin’ bout no donuts. We’re talking about basketball today. Check out this article about St. Mary’s.
It seems they broke the rather obscure no dunks during warm-ups rule before the WCC Championship game last night. I can safely say that I have never seen this rule enforced before, and I watch my fair share of college hoops. As dumb as this rules is, I still gotta say, “what was he thinking?” Don’t get me wrong, I love a great dunk as much as the next guy (especially if it’s my main man Mike Tisdale), but why would you dunk during pre-game?
I understand the whole intimidation factor. In sports competition you want to put a little fear in your opponent. It’s good to be intimidating. But, in my oppinion if you really want to be intimidating, then you get out on the court and play great basketball…during the game.
I love to see fierce competition, but I also love to see sportsmanship. Whenever you get both of these things together, you have a great event worth watching.
You think that is stupid… check out this link where a High School kid dunked in pre-game and broke the backboard and cost them a forfeit…

you may have to copy and paste… Sorry
I bet he wasn’t feeling so good about that dunk after they had to forfeit. I actually saw a backboard shattered one time at Byron. We were playing summer league down there one year and the guy did it right after the games ended that night. It was the first time I actually saw how thick that glass is. It was really thick…probably about an inch or so.
