Monday Morning Rewind

Posted by donknoup on February 23, 2009

A look back at what seemed like an incredibly long Sunday…

  • Leading worship and teaching is way more fun when you are not sick.  I’m thanking God that I finally feel like I’m recovering today.
  • Leading worship and teaching are a privilege and I’m thankful that I had the opportunity regardless of the circumstances.
  • Everett and Char are absolutely right.  I’m keeping my hair short and black.
  • Based on the comments I received after the video, I’d say my subtle jab at people who leave their cell phones on during service was way to subtle.  May I speak for all of those who commented when I say please turn off your cell phones at church.
  • There are things I like and things that I don’t like about the NIV translation.  I love that the language is more simple and easy to understand, but there are certain verses that make no sense when they translate to the NIV.  For example Isaiah 10:27.
  • Our church is filled with people who have gone to church their whole lives.  I love you guys, don’t go anywhere…but what I took away from this is that we need to do a better job of reaching the unchurched people of our communities.
  • I may joke about my Catholic/Lutheran upbringing but I would not trade it for anything in the world.  If it were not for the love of my parents and all that they did to raise me…I would NOT be who I am today.  I think one day soon, I will blog about lessons I’ve learned from my Mom and Dad.  Kids of any age that are reading this, listen closely.  Honor your Father and Mother!  Exodus 20:12
  • Illini vs Ohio State…great game and the good guys won.  This is what college basketball is all about.
  • Barely watched the Oscars and for the most part I could care less.  But I did hear a bit of Sean Penn’s acceptance speech.  A few points on this.  #1 Who knew Sean Penn was still an actor?  #2 Who told actors their oppinion on politics matters to anyone?  #3 Why are these award shows always used as a political platform?  #4 Homosexuality is a sin.  Marriage is God designed to be between one man and one woman.

You said “Our church is filled with people who have gone to church their whole lives. I love you guys, don’t go anywhere…but what I took away from this is that we need to do a better job of reaching the unchurched people of our communities.”

You are absolutely right! I have been saying that for a while now, but it was more evident than ever to me this weekend… not just Sunday, but Saturday night too… I will be blogging more about this topic later today… I hope!
