I saw this tag line recently for a music studio.

“Private Coaching for Amateurs and Pros”

I was reminded once again that no matter what level we attain, there is always room to learn more.  It really doesn’t matter what aspect of life we are talking about.  It could be musically, professionally, or even in our walk with Jesus Christ; there is always a next level for us to reach toward.  I believe there are 2 things that go beyond just plain talent which greatly affect our ability to succeed.

1.  Humility

In Proverbs 3:34  it says that He gives grace to the humble.  Now if your definition is simply “unmerited favor” then this scripture probably doesn’t pack a big punch for you.  But the definition that I was taught and have been sharing with others is this:  Grace is God’s willingness to use his ability and power on our behalf even though we don’t deserve it.  When you stop and realize that grace is God’s power, it will give you a whole new outlook on it.  There is power in humility.  We need to recognize that God is God and we are not.

2.  Confidence

At first it would seem that these 2 things might contradict each other, but they really don’t.  Instead confidence and humility can actually compliment one another.  Read Philipians 1:6 and find out what sort of confidence we need.  God created you with a purpose and he has a plan for your life.  You are not an accident.  Your confidence can be in him.  And I also think it’s important for us to know that God has placed inside of everyone of us abilities that will cause us to succeed at the things He has called us to do.
