Embrace Technology or Embrace Stagnation

Posted: August 9, 2008 in Technology

We must embrace technology now more then ever.  In fact tomorrow we will need to embrace it even more.  And a year from now we will need to embrace it even more.  Our church’s today will become stagnant if we don’t embrace technology.  Years ago it was accoustic guitars instead of an organ.  We now have projectors instead of slide projectors or hymnals.  Months ago it was myspace, today perhaps it’s twitter.  It can be hard to keep up and sometimes it makes me wonder, “is this the important thing?”  Shouldn’t we spend more time on more “spiritual” stuff?

What about prayer and bible study and spending time building relationships?  It’s not that those things aren’t important, because they are.  But think about it, if everyone is online then where do we need to go to build those relationships?  Online communication doesn’t substitute, but rather suplements our face to face time.

I was just reading another blog (Brad Cooper) this evening talking about the end of MTV’s reign in the lives of our young people.  Check out Brad’s blog about not chasing MTV anymore.  The reason is that more people are spending more time online and less time watching TV.  When Jesus instructed us to go into all the world…he really meant ALL THE WORLD.
